Edible East

Free Community Champion training on 28th May E5 Roots has successfully applied to be part of the Edible East programme. This project helps community gardening groups in east London to transform disused spaces. We will be assigned a community gardener and receive help running gardening workshops, sustainability events and celebrations for residents over the next six months.

Edible East are holding a Community Champion training session on 28th May at 6-8pm (venue TBC) and E5 Roots has a couple of allocated spaces available. If you would like to come along email Danielle (daniellekmcohen@hotmail.com) by the end of the week (17th May). Places allocated on a first come, first served basis. Training is open to people of any age, with or without gardening experience and will cover:

  • Group capacity building
  • Long term sustainability of the project
  • Networking * Question and Answer session
  • A chance to meet other Edible East sites and share skills and knowledge.

Now that we are part of Edible East, it’s a great time to get involved with E5 Roots –  even if you haven’t before.   We’d love to welcome more volunteers to help us make the most of this great opportunity, by helping us with planning and organising the group’s activities. You will need to have a bit of free time and be enthusiastic about growing food on the Jack Watts estate alongside other residents. Email Zee, Ellen and Danielle  at this email address to find out more.

Camping on Leyton Marsh Public Consultation

The Lea Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA) are planning to turn a large section of Leyton Marsh (The former Pitch and Putt golf course) into a campsite with fixed cabins.
This will severely compromise existing public access around the Marshes.
There are also plans to extend the Riding stables.
The Park Authority are holding a public consultation this Saturday 10am to 2pm at the Waterworks Centre E10 7QB (drop-in anytime)
Its been badly publicised by the Park Authority so they are probably not expecting many people to turn up.
Please go along and surprise them.
