Whip Planting 12 February 2022

Join us on Saturday 12 February at 10.00 in planting up the area behind the electricity sub-station in South Millfields park. We will be mass whip planting to create a mixed native coppice (including Field Maple, Hawthorn, Holly, Wild Cherry, Rowan) and a willow coppice (White Willow, Coral Bark Willow, and Goat Willow). This will add excellent habitat and create materials for basket weaving and other crafts. No experience is required and the event is suitable for all ages. Please bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.

The planting will be led by the Tree Musketeers and Millfields User Group volunteers in liaison with Hackney Council. The space is being reclaimed by the park after more than a decade when it was fenced off for National Grid works.

On Thursday 10 February two classes of school children from Rushmore School will be planting whips along with The Mayor and Cllr Caroline Woodley.
